Draw and annotate Pages on the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch


 Draw and annotate Pages on the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch and latest setting  Add drawings and annotations to your document with an Apple Pencil on compatible devices, or also use your finger.



  • Add a drawing ( Apple )



You can draw on Pages to add illustrations and diagrams to your documents.

To draw with the Apple Pencil, touch the pencil on the page. To use your finger, or if you activated the Select and scroll function, touch the Insert button, touch the Multimedia button, and then touch Drawing.

If the Drawing option at the bottom of the screen is not yet selected, touch it.


  • Start drawing 

In a word processing document, if you still don't see an orange drawing box, touch somewhere on the page with the Apple Pencil and then draw in the box.

 If you draw with your finger, touch the Insert a new drawing button to add a drawing box. To change the size of the drawing area, drag the handles. Text flows around the drawing box.


  • Draw anywhere in a page layout document.


To change the drawing tools, touch a tool at the bottom of the screen. You can also use the following tools to use different effects or functions:

To draw a new filled shape, tap Fill and start drawing. To fill an area, touch Fill and then touch the area you want to fill.

To erase, touch the Eraser tool and drag it over the drawing.

To edit parts of a drawing, touch the Selection tool and then touch the part of the drawing you want to edit or pass the tool through it.

To draw with a different color, touch the circle of colors and choose the one you prefer. Swipe left to adjust a color.

To draw with a different stroke size and opacity, tap the tool twice and then tap a new stroke size. Or, drag the slider to adjust the opacity.

To undo the last action, touch the Undo button.

When you're done, tap OK.




  • Resize the drawing and move it


You can change the size of the drawing and move it after adding it:

To change the size of the drawing, touch it with your finger and drag the handles of the box.

To move the drawing, touch it with your finger and drag it.



  • Edit parts of a drawing


If necessary, touch the drawing with your finger and then touch Edit Drawing in the pop-up menu.

Touch the Selection tool at the bottom of the screen.

 Then, touch the part of the drawing you want to edit or pass the tool through it. 

An outline will appear around the selection.

Touch an option in the pop-up menu:

To resize a selection, touch Resize and drag the handles of the box around the drawing.

To separate a drawing and convert it into two drawings, touch Separate in the pop-up menu.


  • Animate a drawing


You can animate a drawing in a Pages document so that the drawing looks like it is being drawn.

If you want to animate a drawing on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, do the following:

If you are in drawing mode, tap OK. Otherwise, go to the second step.


  • Touch the drawing to select it.

Touch the Format button and then touch Drawing.

Activate animate drawing and then adjust other options such as duration.

To play the animation, touch Play or Animate drawing.

On a Mac, you can animate a drawing that was added to a document in Pages for iPhone or iPad.

In the Pages document with the drawing, select it.

Click the Format button, select Animate drawing, and then adjust other options, such as duration.

To play the animation, click Play on the Format sidebar or click animate drawing on the page.


  • Share or save the drawing


You can share or save a drawing of your document as an image file (.png), or, if you animated the drawing, as an image or a video file (.m4v).

If you want to save or share a drawing on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, do the following:

If you are in drawing mode, tap OK. Otherwise, go to the second step.

Touch the drawing to select it and then choose Share.

 If you animated the drawing, select Share as image or Share as video.


Choose how you want to send the image or video, as with Mail or Messages.

 Or, select Save image (or Save video for cartoons) to save it in the Photos app.

On a Mac, you can share or save a drawing that was added to a document in Pages for iPhone or iPad.

In the Pages document with the drawing, hold down the Control key and click on the drawing.

Choose Share If you animated the drawing, select Share as image or Share as video.

Choose how you want to send the image or video, as with Mail or Messages. Or, choose Add to Photos to save the image or video in the Photos app.



  • Add an annotation



You can annotate the document. When you add annotations in text, objects, or cells in a table in a document, they move with that text or object as you edit.  


To add an annotation with the Apple Pencil, tap anywhere on the page. To use your finger, or if you activated the Select and scroll function with the Apple Pencil, touch the More button and then touch Smart Annotation.

If the Smart Annotation option at the bottom of the screen has not yet been selected, touch it.
Add the annotations.

To change tools or change the color of the tool used for annotations, touch a tool or a color at the bottom of the screen.

To delete, touch Eraser at the bottom of the screen and then touch the annotation. To erase all annotations, touch Erase all at the top of the screen.
